I wanted to share from the 9/6/08 comments section, A DC Teacher's Lament. Souldrummer said... "Anacostia High School has been a concern for me for some time. It appears to lack a parent apparatus that can advocate for students downtown. Candi, are you aware of any nonprofits that help support motivated students academically at Anacostia High in the 9th and 10th grade years?" I'd like to pose the question to anyone who may know of city tutoring resources (preferably free ) that would help support Anacostia senior high students academically. Post your responses here. There are a lot of programs citywide, but for specific programs at Anacostia, you might want to start with the school itself and ask what programs they know of in the area. Citywide, there is Positive Nature and College Bound programs. Some local churches also offer after school enrichment programs as well.
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't work, look into programs that might work and then ask DCPS to bring them to the school. Probably won't work, but you won't know unless you try.
