Chancellor Rhee and Mayor Fenty's press conference today announced that a tentative agreement has not been reached between DCPS and the WTU. A lot of teachers are now pointing the finger of blame at one another for the impasse. "A wise man told me don't argue with fools because people from a distance can't tell who is who. - Jay-Z"
Here's the short of it as reported by Bill Turque of the WaPost on October 2nd :
D.C. Schools Chief Shores Up Power to Fire Teachers
"D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee, stymied in her attempts to negotiate a labor contract that would give her more power to fire ineffective teachers, today announced a series of steps that she said would allow her to achieve that objective on her own. Among the measures Rhee plans to impose are a new teacher evaluation system based primarily on student test scores and other achievement benchmarks. She also promised more aggressive implementation of legal provisions already in place, including the ability to eliminate teacher jobs -- because of declining enrollment or school closures -- using seniority as only one of several factors taken into consideration. Rhee said she intended to more intensively use the so-called "90-day plan" that allows administrators to give teachers three months' notice to improve or face dismissal. "Where we are now is an incredibly unfortunate place," Rhee said. Rhee has been threatening to implement what she called "Plan B" for the past couple of months."
One thing I wish Rhee would point out is: her educational reform plan (yet to be revealed ). I know our school system would be better served by the development of one. Posted by Candi.
Now we all are nervous as heck because a group of YOUS!!! did create this...
ReplyDeleteWhat a stress to put on our shouldes...
Darn right I'm pointinga finger because I was all for it!!!
Atleast we would have been forced to work harderbut our families wouldn't be suffering...
Now I am stressed out because my family needs me to work and make more money!!! This current contract is 2005 dated! Gs wasn't almost at 4 dollars... pirce of milk wasn't $5!
Do you feel my pain???
I hope so...but probably not...
I refer you to my quote by Jay Z !
ReplyDeletePlease don't tell me that you were going to work harder because of the salary possibilities. Can't you see that Rhee doesn't have a clue about education or leadership? I am so glad that GP didn't bring that nonsense to a vote. I would rather stay with no contract than to stoop down to the level that this administration is trying to take us. We do deserve a great salary but not at the expense of our souls! 90 day plans are not to be feared nor is this something that Rhee started. Ineffective teachers should be dismissed but everyone should have due process and the chance to get better.
ReplyDeleteThe educator youarenothing but a downer... a prude...there is nothing classy or professional abou that.
ReplyDeleteThis is a horrible moment in DCPS history, because we work hard but now we all are under radar...
Please try and understand...it was not ONLY about money...
Rhe is highly upset that she couldn;t prove sucess to us, so she has to make significant difference by a certain time I guess...
she knows what she's doing... give her a chance like the rest of us... we have a long time to go when most vets have a few more years...
our stakes are higher...you all have been skating thru, and that is why we are in the perdicament/but lost opportunity we are in now...
Selfish and prude! Thoughtless and crucifying group of individuals!
How do you know who is skating through- you don't even know us ?
ReplyDeleteYou are ranting again which btw is against my blogging rules. Warning before I hit the 'D' button. Let's keep it civil as personal attacks and rants are not necessary for anyone to get a point across. Thanks for honoring my ground rules.
