Please Help ! Another plea from an Anacostia teacher colleague !
9/14.. Candi... I finally located the teacher's lounge which has been allocated for teachers at Anacostia SHS on Friday 9/12/2008. It is located in the new building, but one would not know that it was the new building, because it is run down, dull, major cracks in the walls, and worst than the "old building. I've concluded the "maintenance, engineering, plumbing, electrical, carpenters, and the custodial staff" are inefficient there, or they definitely need more help. The custodial staff needs training on how to clean a school building. The stairs have not been cleaned .....seems like in a decade. Anyway, I visited the teacher's lounge and it was appalling. It appears this place has not been cleaned in years. It smells of urine. Rat/Mouse droppings and roaches are everywhere. This place is unacceptable. I am shocked that the DCPS administration is announcing this "place" as a teacher's lounge. Who is responsible for our school buildings? How can this school be allowed to operate under these conditions? Where is the Chancellor and the Mayor on this situation at Anacostia? You should also see the business managers office, she is in and out (more out) due to complications of her pregnancy. I would spend time articulating this environment also in writing, but I am beginning to feel no one cares except for the teachers at Anacostia who nobody tends to listen to. Several teachers have echoed that they have sent emails to the Chancellor but no response has been given. Please publish on your blog and send to the local media. Thanks, anonymous teacher. Are you sure those teachers have really emailed Chancellor Rhee? I have never heard of her not getting back to a teacher within 24 hours. Have you emailed her yet? So sorry your conditions are so horrible. Good luck this year.
ReplyDeleteI echo the sentiments expressed above to my colleagues in Anacostia HS. It's so horrible that teachers are working in such conditions as well as students trying to learn. Also, whenever I've emailed Rhee she gets back to me in less than anhour. No matter what you may think about her and her reforms, she does know how to answer an email. michelle.rhee@dc.gov
ReplyDeleteIt would be appropriate for the WTU Building Representative who represents Anacostia High School to address this situation and not me. I know that members of the school staff are working to try to resolve this issue. I have utilized my blog to provide information which I receieve about some of the struggles that our DCPS colleages are currently facing. I hope that this situation gets resolved sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteGet a few buckets of paint and get in there and paint it. Go ask the principle if he'll open on Saturday and get a team of teacher's. Call the mantaince man and that's not a Rhee problem in my opinion. That's administration not taking care of their building or not having the budget to do so !It'll be a fun project you'll all cuss about but when you finish be proud ya did it ! I'd have been fired by the principle the first day and would have been raising t- total hecks, bells and cocktail shells !Rhee's fired some good principles, why not that one for allowing the building to be so trashed and smell like rats and poop to methane ? Where are the flower beds in front of the building ? It's actually a fun project with the students !If the teacher's won't help you clean up the lounge and paint bet your students will for pizza.Grab the art teacher for creative ideas ! Oh yeah, with NCLB and 10 % they've cut those classes.Every survival kit has a sense of humor. You'll get a team going to make a difference in that lounge! Now I'll worry about this story and come back and tell us what happens !
ReplyDeleteLowe's has a grant for grounds improvement and had a buddie several months ago tell me about it that's in landscaping. Think it's Lowes but maybe Home Depo.Call their corporate office and see if that's still going on.Take before and after pictures and send the news !Teacher's take control of school buildings and Rhee fires another principle !
ReplyDeleteIs there not a team of interior designers anywhere in Washington that will go in and help this school's teacher's lounge ? They have decor issues and it smells like dead rats ! Uh oh and what's the lunch room like ? Sounds like the mice are running around. Are they sneaking in the soup? That could make national news !We don't want to catch transmissible spongiform encephalopathy !We have prions in the school building !The good news is the rescue ship docked in to help and the call letters are AFT !The rats walk the plank at Anacostisa and we want to see before and after pictures !Call health and sanitation to inspect the lunch room !Just because it's tough times doesn't mean it can't shine and parents care !If you're smelling rats in the lounge chances are they've found the lunch room !
ReplyDeleteConstructional repairs needed as well and just found the pictures.Where are the contractors ? The principle doesn't have the buget and they're spending the money at the top in law suits ? Surprised the city health inspector hasn't been in and that's a Mayor Fentry task isn't it ? Meanwhile Rhee fires principles and teacher's ? Send the issues to the Senators and Congress ! To CNN !
ReplyDeletePardon the typo's and that's BUDGET !How many calls to the Health Department for inspection ?Send Rhee that notice to advise !
ReplyDeleteCall the city officials !Go to City Desk and they have names of who to ask for if this isn't handled ASAP by the administration !
ReplyDeleteCHANGING OF THE GUARDS IS GOING ON ! Hard and fast ! Reversing executive decision !Democracy is back and alive ! Tone, organization and vision !Where are the art students and call the University students to help. They have shop classes going on and bet there are carpenters out of work. Can the building be saved ? Graphic design and art students connect with Anacostisa High ? Measure the drapes !Go to Obama.gov !
ReplyDeletehang in there the counsil rescue ship is docking !
