This just in- the Washington Teachers Teachers Union Temporary Restraining Order was denied in court on October 28 by Judge Judith Barnoff of DC Superior Court.
Details forthcoming. The preliminary injunction will be scheduled after DC teachers' termination on November 5.

We need details. Why were the rif'd teachers meeting at the church when they should have been in the courthouse? Did they leave the church and go down to hear their fate?
Can you explain the restraining order and what was the petition? I haven't heard anything about this. Also, in case you hadn't heard, Rhee is organizing her own people to come support her the day she faces Gray...check it out http://putdckidsfirst.org/
I hope George Parker paid for today's fiasco out of his pay check. I heard that the lawyer(s) were admonished by the judge for filing a late request.
The TRO should have been filed prior to the event or on the day of the event.
A lawsuit should have been filed on behalf of the body for unlawful termination, violation of labor laws, etc.
Are these the same lawyers representing the people who were rif'd? That is there hard earned, borrowed, auctioned, pawned money. The attorneys need to perform or repay these individuals.
I hope today was not a precedent to what's to come!
Time to begin the next strategy. Ms. Rhee and company have not won yet, eventhough hey thik hey have. We knew moving forward that the standards for this was extremely high. All hope is not lost, just got to find another avenue.
While terminated teachers and other RIFFed employees worried about their fate and how long they could stretch their last paycheck, employees in 825 celebrated in grand style today. Halloween costumes from the 50s and 80s, Michael Jackson impersonators and Tata's commandos roamed the building- eating, drinking and dancing. No sign of Marie Antoinette and no indication that anyone was concerned about tomorrow's proceedings.
I know the the WTU President, George Parker arranged a mtg. with teachers at the same time as the court hearing. My understanding is that RIF'd teachers were not at the hearing unfortunately.
Perhaps a RIF'd teacher or counselor will weigh in here about what happened at that meeting.
The WTU lawyers filed the TRO- temporary restraining order. Attorney Lee jackson of Odonnell, Schwartz and Anderson presented the case. Our union lawyers filed this TRO as well as the preliminary injunction.
OMG!

ReplyDeleteThe TRO was filed by the union and has nothing to do with any private lawsuit filed by the RIFd teachers.
