Is Rhee sweeping out Principal Patrick Pope of Hardy middle school in exchange for Hyde Addison's principal- Dana Nerenburg during the DCPS spring break ?
Well some parents are saying that Principal Dana Nerenburg of Hyde Addison elementary school will take over Hardy middle school sooner than the end of the school year. Members of the Hardy student body and parent community have expressed their outrage about Pope being transitioned out by Rhee. Hardy students wrote letters about Pope being ousted and when they went unanswered by Mayor Fenty, students went down to meet with Chairman Vincent Gray. Parents of the Hardy community have also set up individual meetings with council members and most recently they presented testimony at the DC City council's oversight performance hearing this past Monday, March 15 along with students. Another protest is planned at the Hardy campus this Friday, March 19 located at 1819 35th St. NW, 202-729-4350. I know that Patrick Pope, now Principal of Hardy middle school is a reader of The Washington Teacher blog. If there is no truth to the allegation made below in the anonymous email, then I hope Mr. Pope will feel free to weigh in. I will surely post his comments.
Hi Candi:
"I was talking to some parents from Hardy today and was told that Dana Nerenberg was at the school yesterday putting things in place for a possible takeover after the spring break. Parents feel that Pope may be fired or reassigned during the break and Nerenberg will be asked to step in. According to this parent she was setting up a transition team or something along those lines. This M.O. is not out of the ordinary for Rhee, as you well know, at the end of last year there were quite a few downtown folk who were let go while they were on vacation or let go while their immediate superiors were on vacation. Talk about underhanded."

I'm not surprised! This is the way things go.
ReplyDeleteSickening........!!!!!
At least we know that Rhee is an equal opportunity discriminator....she ignores teachers, students, parents, city council members, etc.
FYI Bill Turque has the same information checkout his today's Insider Blog.
ReplyDeleteBill Turque has something on this:

I wonder if Pope plans to leave DCPS and let the kids out of school to go to the DC Council meeting as a kinda FU to Baltimore Miracle Rhee.
I was told by a staff member at Hardy that only three teachers met with the "new" principal and the new millionaire Wilhoyte.
ReplyDeleteWilhoyte has scheduled meetings next week with Hardy's Transition Team and "community parents." Rhee is determined to win this battle and if the city council does not step in she will win. Let's face it the citizens of DC are at war with this group of low-lifes.
Wilhoyte should go home and spend his money and think about all the lives he helped ruin along with Rhee. Talk about an injustice. I wish I could afford to play the slots.
Thanks guys for sharing the useful resource at the FYI Bill Turque.
ReplyDeleteAll I have to say is that the remaining forty-nine states, capitols, and cities are watching Rhee and what she can get away with doing to people, and these cities, states, and school systems will try her approach and begin terminating people for no justifiable reason at all. It is sad that the City Council is not doing anything, and the mayor, that is a horse of a different color. My God.
ReplyDeleteThis is insane! Changing Principals with only 3 months left of school days???? Why? So someone else can get credit for these high acheivers. City Council need to stop her Madness! WHO IS SUPPOSE TO ENFORCE EDUCATIONAL POLICIES AND BROKEN LAWS THAT SHE HAS VIOLATED (OTHER THAN FENTY)??
ReplyDeleteWho is millionaire, Wilhoyte?
ReplyDelete@edlharris said... you are right,"F" the Baltimore miracle.
Correction, 2 teachers were told 2 go to the meeting because everyone refused to go to the meeting.
ReplyDeleteCandi, not to change the subject, but I just got an interesting email. It was to my dc.gov account from Kaya Henderson, asking me (and presumibly many other teachers) to apply to teach summer school, mentioning something positive about my evaluation. Does this mean that a teacher's evaluation will be linked to summer school hiring? What's the IMPACT score cut-off to be able to teach summer school?
ReplyDeleteThis is sure a change from last year, where they made a big deal of hiring outside of DCPS, appearing to prefer non-DCPS teachers over us to teach. Now they say that there is preference for DCPS teachers. What have y'all heard out there?
Agreed that there are similarities to Oyster in terms of principal replacement. However, many MORE than two Adams students came to Oyster and all were offered the option. That is a falsehood. True, not very many Adams teachers were invited to remain.
ReplyDeleteWhat will Rhee do next! Perhaps go to Jail!!! Amazing how DC govt allows Rhee to do as she pleases. But her days are numbered.
ReplyDeleteSummer school employment will be tied to your IMPACT scores this year. You have to average at least a 2.5 on all five evaluations in order to be considered for teaching summer school.
ReplyDeleteRhee is not going anywhere, according to the Post she has hired an ex-White House media advisor. She is here to stay and arming for a fight. George vs. Rhee, who do you think is going to win, this is very discouraging.

ReplyDeleteMy money's on Rhee.
I am impressed to hear that impact scores will factor in to summer school teaching hiring. So many summer school teaching jobs go to the friends of whoever is the summer school coordinator. With the millions of tax dollars spent on summer school, it is essential that only effective teachers are in classrooms.
ReplyDeleteTwo words: damage control
ReplyDeleteshe hired this person to do damage control because her 5 million dollar staff can not do the job; also, she wants to get in good with the Obama administration (like Kevin and Adrian)just in case they grow balls and tell her leadership style is no longer needed. Watch out Calloway you are next to get fired.
Another funny thing about the hearing: when Council member Barry and Council member Gray heard about the WTU commercial they laughed with disbelief that the WTU would advertise an ad with a harmonious theme when DCPS just fired over 500 staff since summer '09.
ReplyDeleteI think George Parker feels defeated and knows he will be back in the classroom SY '10/'11 so he is "making good" on his return into the classroom. His first impact review will sound like this "Well master sir I doed like you all axed I made good on my promise and sold my people out" why did I get a 1.8 evaluation and hey where is my mule?
GP better review the IMPACT rubric, get ready to state the objective, refer back to it during key points in the lesson, address various learning styles, deliver factually content that is clear and check for understanding, not to mention probing for higher order thinking all in a 30 minute observation. Because he's going back to the classroom and will work under IMPACT, as we have been doing this school year. Let's hope his secondary math ME is better than the one I have in a different subject.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks anonymous @10:11 for the clarification about teachers needing a 2.5 average IMPACT score or higher to get hired for summer school. I figured that was it.
Somewhat off of the subject. Just looking around at other states to see what is going on with their schools.
ReplyDeleteRI, Whole school staff fired and Obama approves.

I've been telling people to watch out for the circle of friends:
ReplyDeleteObama
Kevin Jennings
Kevin Johnson
Rhee
Rhee has hired someone who worked for the whitehouse - this is a big red flag!!!

ReplyDeleteOnly one Adams teacher was offered a position and less than 5 students who had to test into the new school were invited. Most of the Adams kids were sent to their neighborhood schools and Marie Reed and the teachers had to find a new position. I really don't think the Hardy parents and students will fall for what happened at Adams.
ReplyDeleteYou mean the students test in -- no lottery first then give the students an assessment. So said that Rhee is wreckless in her 5-sided approaches. She told the Hardy family to use lottery first as not to discriminate.
ReplyDeleteWhat is written about Adams is absolutely true. Most of the Adams teachers I know or know about were placed in other schools, some at the very last minute. They were really treated shabbily and only 1 or 2 were picked up by Oyster.
ReplyDeleteIt hurts to see one person along with the mayor has caused all of this to happened to the teachers in DC Who's to blame? Teachers in DC have given up their Power. They have let the Great Asian-Hope destroy the unity among teachers. We won't fight and don't know what to do to win. We might as well be back in slavery. She has given the Council members, George Parker and the teachers her behind to kiss and it seems there is nothing we can do. The teachers need to band together and fight this situation through fasting and praying. She thinks she has won the battle, but God gets the last say. Her day is coming and it is actually here now.
ReplyDeleteAs a colleague and an occasional anon. commenter, I am dismayed by the blatant racism in 3/22 5:45pm.
ReplyDeleteI too, agree with the blogger, that the mayor, and his hired gun Michelle Rhee are out of control. The DC city council seem blinded by the all-knowing Ms. Rhee. What Ms. Rhee has done to DC Schools is a complete shame. This woman had NO-Prior-Experience running a school system. Well look what this inexperienced-test-anything-on-DC-Public-School-children, has done. We are worse off now because her brainless and shameless behavior. She, and Fenty should be tried in a court of law. The charge should read, "Complete Fools Running A school system". The verdict-Guilty!
ReplyDeleteanon Mar. 22, 5:45 has reflected the feelings of so,so many educators in the city. The morale, self-worth, and confidence of so many of us has been damaged by MR and AF's admin. It's going to take so much to rebuild our feelings of self-worth as educators. Many of us are so disappointed in the way that the city council has handled MR. Many of us feel as though there is nowhere or no one to turn to in support of us. Many of us have watched hopelessly and in vain how the young and very inexperienced TFA teachers (with their computers ) are ruining the education of so many of our students. Ater reading the last blog posted by Candi, I think that every educator needs to march in support of our rights and the respect for our profession. We seem to be in one of the few professions that everyone thinks they can do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anon. Mar.22 5:45 and Anon.Mar.29 9:22 Both bloggers are saying things that are so true. The part that a lot of other bloggers are leaving out, is that only a small percentage (35%) of teachers live in DC. These teachers (including me) pay taxes and are the tax base, along with others DC citizens and workers for the entire city. We hear and we see what this current Fenty administration is doing to this great Capital city. I and my neighbors will vote in the September Primaries, and the mayoral election to try to get this fake-*ss-watered-down-chancellor out of DC, along with her-incompetent boss, Fenty.
ReplyDeleteto anon. Mar.29 @11:56,from anon. Mar.29 @ 9:55 I'm so glad that you are in agreement with my statement, and that you are able to relate to the feelings of hurt, disappointment and a sense of not being supported by our unions or city officials. These are the feelings of so many of our colleagues. Hopefully you and others in the city will be able to make a difference when it's time to vote. I just hope that it's not going to be to late for our children.

ReplyDeleteI don't know where to place this blog, so I'll just place it here. One of my very dear friends was in a Starbucks and over heard a group of men discussing the recent shooting is SE DC. Two of the men stated that they thought that the blame rested with the schools, and if the schools were doing a better job then these types of incidents would not happen. My friend who is also an educator in DCPS was so angry that she wanted to say something but decided that if someone is this ignorant to make this type of statement then she needed to just walk away and say nothing especially in these times. Perhaps this was a flashback to the statments that MR made that teachers were abusers and molesters. This is probably what we're teaching our students to be and do.
Maybe that's why they blame the schools and the teachers for such a terrible act. Hell what else can they blame us for?????
I went to Hardy Middle School, while Mr.Pope was there he was my principal. He did and has a wonderful job in that school. He truely cares about the students and their lives. Rhee is not making a good decision here, but does she ever. Mr. Pope personally made sure that I made it to high school and graduate. DO NOT REMOVE MR. POPE. signed im.
ReplyDeleteUpdate on Mr. Pope:
ReplyDeleteI'm sure many already know that Mr. Pope is the principal at Savoy Elementary school in SE Washington a place I am sure he didn't intend to be. He's by many accounts not the sweet, loving and dedicated principal that he once was. See Mr. Pope this is what DCPS (Henderson and her counterparts think about you). They have probably targeted you with the new person who took Adderly's position (I understand he's is just as nasty as she was) to make your life hell so you will retire, resign or whatever. Watch your back. Like you should be watching your teachers' backs because really Mr. Pope, as you probably already have figured out,DCPS doesn't give a dam about you either.
