Ohmygawd!! He meant ruby. I read the post, and as a true DCPS teacher, I read rubby and thought it was rubber and not ruby because ruby isn't spelled like that. Plus, I didn't get the context either. So it was Dorothy's shoes from the Wizard of Oz. BTW, has anyone heard about the 90 plan and what's going on? Does Rhee really have a quota for each principal to come up with?
At the risk of sounding cynical, let's stop taking ourselves so seriously. The anonymous poster made a mistake when he misspelled ruby. I am also guilty of this as a former English major. But for God sakes people, the intent here is the content and please stop with the scruitiny of every minor spelling error after all I do not have an editor nor do I desire to pay one. What's more important is utilizing some of your energy to address real life issues.
I have information that there is a quota mandate for principals to get their local school staff on a 90 day plan.

I get it about the Wizard of Oz. With Rhee, it's who is that lady behind the curtain? And I wasn't criticizing the poster's spelling. I just didn't know what rubby meant and didn't know it was merely ruby mispelled. Again, about the 90 plan, is the quota for all schools or only schools which didn't make AYP? Does anyone know, because this is a real life issue in DCPS.
No my sources say there is a system wide quota for DC principals to put their teachers on a 90 day plan. This has nothing to do with schools making or not making AYP.
So this is worse than once thought. If there's a systemwide quota, it affects all schools. She's really out to get us, not just teachers in failing schools but schools which have done well. This is really ugly.

"Ease on down the road!" Don't you carry nothing that might be a load...." Therefore, by virtue of the authority vested in me I hereby confer upon you the honorary 90-Day Rhee Plan. The Age of Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 might have something to say about this. That's when the Tin Man's straw catches on fire and you better have a Union member at every conference and a lawyer. Let's take a look at the procedural violations, building working conditions and operations in the building disorganized with systemic administrative confusion under Rhee reform. Rewriting educational law and the Constitution as she goes along? Video your instruction and document everything with a tape recorder running on every conference. They have administrative procedures to follow prior to a 90-day plan and this is procedurally out of control!
No wonder Time Magazine said the principals were scared of Rhee and she'll get them sued operationally and procedurally. Ambiguous circumstances of creative leadership confusion? We have the broom Oz ! Sick em Toto !
Experts in education involved in reauthorization of NCLB all seem to agree and there goes Rhee with mandates linking bonusus to student test scores and other incentive-pay provisions.Now a mandate to place teachers on 90 day plans. Misguided curriculum and testing requirements are all areas of concern being viewed for reauthorization. More transparancy and accountability for the testing corporations is critical and they have no public over-sight.Isn't it interesting that Finland,Sweden and Denmark are leading the way educationally and academically. They have fun and there is lots of creativity incorporated into thinking and learning with an autonomy project based learning approach. Inspiring continuous learning ! We get stuck with competitive grading,standardized testing and top down accountability with NCLB and a law unfunded. The resources aren't even in DC school buildings for a mandate this radical and extreme.

Just a perspective of some hope that change is on the way ! The reauthorization team is in on what date to get this Pl 107-110 law straightened out ? Public Accountability and Transparancy for Standardized Tests.NCLB testing created high costs and administrative challenges that have caused some states to abandon their performance assessments for machine scored multiple choice. Now using tests less expensive. Connecticut sued the federal government for the funds needed to maintain it's sophisticated performance. The dept.said drop the test under NCLB. Now we have Rhee linking teacher bonuses to student test scores and other incentive-pay provisions under a law unfunded ? 90 day action plans for teachers and principles resign ! See Finland's approach and sick em Toto !
